The All-On-4 Implant Process: What Is Involved?

If you have loose or missing teeth, finding a good tooth replacement option is probably high on your list of priorities. Every year, our doctors at Fort Worth Oral Surgery see thousands of patients, and many of them come in to discuss dental implant options. While most patients have heard about traditional implants, our doctors often find that not many have heard about the newest alternative: All-on-4 dental implants.

The primary difference between traditional dental implants and All-on-4 dental implants is the number of implants needed to secure an entire arch of teeth. Traditional implants require up to 8 implants per arch, but All-on-4 procedures usually only need 4 implants per arch! This less invasive approach to a new set of pearly whites can get you back to flashing your smile while you enjoy your everyday life again – and get you back to eating all the foods you love!

Our surgeons truly care about every one of their patients and provide them with amazing care and comfort every step of the way. It is our joy to see our patients end up with a natural-looking smile they can be proud of! If you’re curious about what’s involved in the All-on-4 implant process, keep reading to learn more.

All-On-4 Dental Implants

“All-on-4” is a term that refers to a tooth replacement option for an entire arch of teeth using just 4 dental implants. This procedure is a time and cost saver compared to traditional individual implants and provides a long-lasting solution for patients who need tooth restoration. Because of the newer implant technology available, All-on-4 dental implants typically do not require bone grafting like traditional implants; therefore, the entire dental implant process is much faster and more comfortable than treating with individual dental implants.

When You Come In For Your All-On-4 Dental Implants

After your doctor has fully examined your mouth and discussed your entire medical history with you, he will determine whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure. To be considered for All-on-4 dental implants, surgical candidates will:

  • Have multiple missing teeth or be missing all of the teeth on the upper or lower arch, or both
  • Be in good physical health
  • Be in good psychological health

If your doctor decides that All-on-4 dental implants are the best option to restore your oral function, he will develop a customized treatment plan based on your specific needs.

On the day of your surgery, you will be given anesthesia to make you comfortable during your procedure. If you have additional teeth that need to be removed, your doctor will first remove those. In addition, if he notices any infected gum tissue, he may decide to remove it as well in order to prevent post-op infection.

After your doctor at Fort Worth Oral Surgery has cleaned up your gums and finished preparing your mouth for surgery, he will then strategically place four titanium implants into your jawbone. These dental implants will take several months to heal, and until they do, you will be fitted with a temporary bridge.

After your doctor has finished placing the implants and temporary bridge, you will then be moved to a private recovery room where you will gradually wake up from the effects of your anesthesia. Your friend or family member can drive you home once you’ve been cleared to leave, and you’ll be able to show off your new, beautiful smile!
